A proposal for the animated film in the form of a script: THE YELLOW SUBMARINE - An Original Story treatment by: Lee Minoff, From the Song by: John Lennon and Paul McCartney, September 11th 1966, mimeographed typescript with a number of manuscript alterations to punctuation and spelling - the theme is described as A quest. An odyssey into the world of fantasy. To the Land of Submarines..The goal should be nothing less than to take animation beyond anything seen before in style, class and tone... although a number of the characters are seen in the released version, this treatment bears little resemblance to the story of the film. 20pp in green binder, including an autograph note, signed from Brian Epstein to John Lennon [n.d. but November 2nd, 1966 when John Lennon had returned from shooting How I Won The War] on inside cover GOOD TO HAVE YOU BACK John...This is the idea that Paul worked out with the writer for the cartoon feature I like it very much. Would like to know of you re-action. Any suggestions, objections etc...Love to Cyn & Mal [Evans], Brian, and an autograph note, signed from John Lennon to Cynthia on the final page of the script, Cyn I've gone to town to see Tom Maschler and Brian..I'll see you later, love Winston x.

This proposal bears a rare example of Lennon's signature, also the story shows a different approach to that used in the film. The Beatles hitch a ride in a Yellow Submarine and accompany an old sea captain Barnacle Fred, to the land of submarines through a Sea of Solid Ice, War of the Waves and Sea of Green. Guided by a chartreuse Boob ..a pompous upper class seal.. they reach the Land of Submarines and finally help the beautiful Submarine folk by ridding them of their scourge ...a huge gigantic big red mean fat sea monster...a nervous compulsive eater...who picks his teeth with submarines.. by explaining to the monster ...that its uncouth for one to pick one's teeth even in private.
