Constance Bennett (1904-1966) was the daughter of matinee idol Richard Bennett. She made her film debut when she was 17 years old, and achieved success as a leading lady in silent pictures. Known to be strong-willed she gave up acting in 1926 to marry the heir to a railroad and steamship fortune, and henceforth busied herself in the social whirl of the international set until her divorce in 1929 when she returned to the screen to star in "talkies".
