Albumen print, 7 3/8 x 4 5/8 in., signed and dated Alice 1894 in ink on recto, mounted on card with photographers' printed credit in gold Russell & Sons 17 Baker Street, W. & 13 High Street Windsor Photographers to the Queen and annotation Osborne in ink on mount, in folded paper with blindstamp Osborne and From Princess Alice Osborne 30 July 1894 in ink; three cartes-de-visite with printed credit W. & D. Downey, one inscribed in ink on verso 21 January 1872 these three cartes were given to me at Osborne....- by the Queen in folded paper inscribed ....- the Emperor Napoleon Empress Eugenie & their son - In remembrance of my visit....on behalf of Q.M. on the day of the Emperor's death. 9 Jan. 73; and an albumen print 5¼ x 7¼ in., mounted on card, in modern window mount. Lot Essay

The last item, a portrait of Gladstone and his family posed around a recently felled tree, and with Gladstone weilding an axe, was possibly taken on the same occasion as the better-known portrait by Currey.
