Lot Essay

Rev. William Dodd (1729-1777) was a popular preacher and chaplain to the Magdalen Hospital as well as author of The Beauties of Shakespeare and various literary works. Having fallen into debt, he forged a bond in the name of the Earl of Chesterfield. For this he was tried, condemned to death and executed at Tyburn.
