Nissen, Zimmer and Abbey all only record one series of plates, and disagree on which series comes first, and on several other details, but this copy appears to have both series bound into it, even though its binding corresponds to 'vol. I' only, mentioned in Zimmer, with the title label: 'N2 of the Oriental Ornithology, containing 12 subjects'. The first series was published without accompanying text descriptions. Abbey says 'The colouring is extremely good and contains much detailed brushwork', and explains the 'N2' by stating that 'Oriental Ornithology' is 'almost certainly' the companion volume to 'The Feathered Game of Hindostan' by Smith and D'Oyly, lettered 'N[1]', but the 12 birds found here fail to correspond at all to the plates listed for this work, and are not found in Abbey.
