Receipt Book, 4to, c.1670-1730, a 325pp. manuscript in several hands, inscribed inside upper cover 'Elizabeth Stringer's Booke 1693' and on front free-endpaper 'Mrs. Elizabeth Simpson's Booke 1705', comprising recipes for preserving and pickling fish and meat dishes, including 'to make Collops of Beefe', 'a Frigacy of Lamb', 'Take your Trouts and stir them in Clarit wine', 'to Dry Neat's Tongues and Hams', 'A Westphalia Ham' ('take the hame of a porkitt and hang itt up a week 10 dayes ... '), also puddings, cakes and 'biskits', and winemaking,, as well as medical receipts for various ailments including 'Dr Denham's derection for a Dyet-Drink with other things -- Take of Rockyn Giterack Mayden Haire of each a handfull, of violet flowers, Cowslips, Primroses, each two handfulls ... hang these in a boulster bag in ye working of 12 gallons of ale brewed as you usually brew it, but with not much hopps', contemporary vellum (soiled).
