Lot Essay

In 1553 Servetus published his major theological work Christianismi restitutio, which also contained the first printed account of the lesser circulation; denounced by Calvin, he was burned at the stake in Geneva later that year. The Eighteenth-century forgeries of his early works were apparently produced to satisfy the demand among Unitarian adherents for the scarce original editions, of which many copies had been destroyed as heretical.
