Lot Essay

This edition of Bembo's History of Venice, dealing largely with the years 1487 to 1513, was published by Michael Vascosan in the same year as the first edition by Aldus. Vascosan, Royal Printer and Printer to the University, was closely associated with Badius Ascensius and Robert Estienne. He discarded the Gothic letter and printed his books in a pleasing Roman type.
