Lot Essay

In both Geiler's books, transcribed and edited by his pupil Jacob Otther, the prefatory matter is printed in roman type, the main text of sermons in Gothic. His enormously successful 'Ship of Penitence' was occasioned by Sebastian Brant's Ship of Fools.
