Martin Cromer (1512-89) wrote his extensive and detailed history of Poland first in Polish, but gained international reputation with this Latin translation. The second work is one of the earliest collections of 'Rerum Germanicum Scriptores', occasioned by the awakening of interest in the history of the Middle Ages, particularly in regard to the Church. It contains Turpin's Chronicle of Charlemagne and Roland, Regino of Pruem's Chronicon, Sigbert of Gembloux's History, and the Chronicle of Lambert of Hersfeld.
