A wakizashi, the blade unokubizukuri and very shallow torii-zori with short grooves and midare hamon, the forging details obsured by shallow scratches, ubu nakago with two mekugi-ana, inscribed Gassan, probably 18th century, in mottled black and brown saya embellished with three gilt-metal mon with a shibayama-style kozuka and uragawara, shakudo tsuba and fuchi-kashira depicting Rokkasen poem cards, the menuki formed as groups of books -- the blade 18¾in.long.
