Cast as Silenus holding aloft a circular serpent cast rim with anthemion supports, on a domed scrolling foliate plinth--24¼in. high

Lot Essay

The original from which this is modelled was excavated at Pompeii on the 20th of August, 1864. It has been suggested that Silenus was originally holding up a gilt-glass bowl of which only two fragments were found.
