A Victorian silver panelled octagonal vase-shaped claret jug on a rising foot and with an applied scrolling foliate rim, elaborate foliate-decorated scroll handle and domed hinged cover with flower finial, engine-turned and engraved with panels of flowers and foliage surrounded by strap-work incorporating fruit, the two sides with shaped oval cartouches, one engraved: " Presented to W. J. Hoggan Esq, Surgeon R. N., by a Number of his Friends in Denny and Vicinity. 1851", Reily and Storer, London 1850 - 12½in, 27.75oz.
