The Wedding March was designed as a lavish studio film, and was probably the most extravagant of all the Von Stroheim productions..several thousand extras took part and there were thirty six separate sets.. Von Stroheim's quest for perfection was caricatured in countless malicious anecdotes...It was said that he had held up production for three days waiting for a toy poodle to sneeze..and that he had supplied his army with silk underwear with the Imperial monogram...shooting on The Wedding March began early in June 1926 and by February 1927 production costs had reached $1,125,000. Anielka Elter who had worked with Stroehim on many of his films said ..He was all for realism..his productions were expensive..During the shooting of 'The Wedding March' he ordered literally thousands of white and pink apple blossoms delicately done in wax for his scene at the fruit garden on the Danube....
