Knight: 'Contains a number of handsome plates illustrating scientific apparatus which was then less austere in appearance than it is today.'
Ferguson: 'A rich compendium of mechanical knowledge, coloured but not vitiated by the author's opinions and Weems-like fables. Vol. I has plates of the first flanged railroad wheel; Vol. II has plates of a Marly Machine and Steam Engines.
