With the possible exception of St. Nicholas the Miracle Worker, St. Sergius of Radonezh is arguably the most loved of all Russian saints. He was canonised by the Russian Orthodox Church before 1449 and pilgrims still visit his shrine in the Trinity Lavra at Zagorsk.
