Lot Essay
The Steam yacht Trenora was built by Ramage & Ferguson of Leith in 1905 and launched with the name Venetia. She was registered at 239 tons and measured 179 feet in length, with a 26½ foot beam. After several changes of name and ownership, she was bought by E. Gerald Stanley in 1929 and renamed Trenora. Mr Stanley commissioned a new Trenora in 1933 and, upon its completion, sold the first Trenora to Mr. K.C. Baraby who promptly gave back her original name of Venetia. In 1938 she was sold to Lord Inverforth who in turn sold her to the Admiralty upon the outbreak of War. Renamed Altair, she was armed and used for anti-submarine work until 1945. Resold after the War and renamed yet again as Niki, she then passed through various foreign owners' hands until disappearing from the Registers, probably to be broken up, after 1956.
