According to the Lloyd's Captains' Register for 1869, Captain Ralph
Dodd was born at Blyth in 1818, and was the brother of Robert Dodd, the engineer. He was issued with Certificate of Service number 75454 and saw foreign service on a number of ships, principally trading to the countries of Northern Europe and the Mediterranean.
