Lot Essay
Asia was a wooden three-master of 1210 tons built in Quebec, Canada, in 1851. Originally owned by Grainger & Co of Belfast, she was sold to Norwood's of Hull in 1859. Last recorded trading between Liverpool and India, she was lost in 1862. Although depicted here flying the Bates house flag from her mainmast, it must be presumed that she was under temporary charter since she never belonged to the Bates fleet.
