Lot Essay
The S.S. Jamestown was built by the Delaware River Co at Chester, Pennsylvania, in 1894. Ordered for the Old Dominion Steamship Co of New York, she was registered at 2898 gross tons and measured 299½ feet in length, with a 40 foot beam. Sailing out of her home port of New York to and from other American East Coast ports for all of her trading life, she was broken up in 1926.
