This gouache is painted on a text sheet belonging to the portfolio of prints Laurels Number 1 published by the Laurel Gallery, New York, May 19, 1947, which bears the text of the old English balad Sir Patrick Spens.

The authenticity of lots 182 and 183 has been confirmed by Armando Colina of Galería Arvil, Mexico City.
