Lot Essay

Lady Holland was the widow of Henry, 4th Baron Holland (1802-1859). She was the daughter of George, 8th Earl of Coventry and on her husband's death in Naples at the age of 57 she inherited his estates and worth some /p60,000. She died in 1889 and was buried in the Roman Catholic chapel at St. Anne's hill in Chertsey, Surrey. The title became extinct on the death of the 4th Baron and the valuable London estate and celebrated Holland House passed to the Earl's of Ilchester.
