Benjamin Herring, Jr. was born into the family of artists whose patriarch was John Frederick Herring, Sr. Along with his brothers, John Frederick Herring, Jr. and Charles Herring, Benjamin shared his father's interest in equine and farmyard subjects, and assisted his father on a number of compositions.
