Lot Essay
According to the records, the number of Lathe No.1104 accords with the period 1815-20, as does the Holtzapffel & Deyerlein name. However, it does not appear to have been sold till May 1903.(Ogden advances theories regarding this.) It was then sold to Sir D.G.A. Duckworth-King Bt., and remained in the family's possession untill 1935 when it was bought by an antique dealer who kept it untill 1990. Seemingly old stock for most of its life! All its fitments seem to be a relevant whole, with numbered chucks and cutting frames fitted to the slide rest.
