A photocopy of the Dorset Daily Gazette of Wednesday, August 4th, 1926 reveals: "The most popular win at the first day of the Weymouth and Dorset County Races at East Chickerell Court yesterday was the victory of Mr F. Coombe's Graceful in the Weymouth Plate. In this prize was #100, including a magnificent silver cup presented by the inhabitants of Weymouth. Mr Coombe is a resident of Dorchester, and he has usually met with success at the Weymouth meeting. His horse, while it was not favourite, carried a lot of local money, and there were cheers for the horse, its owner and jockey when it came home a magnificent winner in front of an outsider. Sloe Gin, the favourite was unplaced."
