Lot Essay

Munnings was an avid race-goer and Newmarket was a course which he proclaimed "the most beautiful course in the world." By 1950, Munnings had a space for painting in a stable near Devil's Ditch, the last curve before the stretch to the grandstand, where he captured this scene.
