A collection of approximately 24 valentine cards, the majority embossed and pierced paperlace valentine cards, some with hand-coloured centres others chromolithographic, some with gilded details, one heart-shaped, the majority with printed verses including a hand-coloured card by Joseph Mansell depicting an embracing couple with printed verse below 'Tell me what course you'll follow love, When you depart from me; And when a wind love that way goes, I'll waft a kiss to thee', another paper lace valentine card with gilded details and chromolithographic centre, with printed verse below 'A woman's love deep in the heart, Is like the violet flower; That lifts its modest head apart In some sequestered Bower', subjects include flowers, children and couples, makers include Marcus Ward & Co. and Dobbs Kidd & Co., circa 1870-80.
