The multiplicity of mold lines (seams) evident on this vase results from the use of a multi-sectioned mold, which was necessary to realize such a complex design and detailed pattern. Nevertheless, the bottom still had to be separately joined ('collées à chaud')* while the glass was in a semi-molten state.
* French: 'fused by heat', a technique in which the various segment of an object must be bonded to each other with perfect timing while the substance is adequately hot to 'stick', yet not too soft, as it may cause a deformation of the object.
