細節
A MARCONI SIGNAL FROM "COMMANDER" TITANIC dated 3rd April 1912 addressed to "Commander Olympic" on with the wireless operator's initials "PL".
The text of the message is on a separate sheet attached to the Marconi signal form. This sheet is headed 'MEMORANDUM' From "Olympic", and on the reverse is signed "Mr. Phillips". The Marconi signal form to which it is attached shows that it was transmitted to "M.K.C. [Olympic]. Time sent 3/8 By whom sent. PL." - presumably John Phillips who was Titanic's Senior Wireless Operator who was lost.
NOTE
It is said to be that this is an original signal received on board TITANIC whilst on passage from Belfast to Southampton; on 3rd April 1912 she was some 150 miles east of Fastnet Rock.
It is thought to be written in Captain Edward Smith's own hand. The fact that the MEMORANDUM sheet reads 'From Olympic' (Olympic is in the same hand as the text of the message) could be explained by the fact that Captain Smith's previous command was the OLYMPIC and he may well still have had one of this ship's MEMORANDUM pads with him. It is said that this was the ship's copy and was landed at Southampton for retention either by Marconi's or the White Star Line.
