Lot Essay

Since no ship of this name is recorded by Lloyd's, the title of this painting may be a transcription error for Estrella. She was an iron barque of 500 tons built by Heddericks of Glasgow and launched in 1866. Owned by Doward, Dickson & Co and registered at Liverpool, she traded with South America until being sold to Norwegian owners in 1896. Thereafter she was used in the Australian trade, but is unrecorded after another change of ownership in 1900.
