A label on the reverse is inscribed:

'Clipper Kaisow racing Norman Court'

Kaisow was built in 1868 by Robert Steel of Greenock. In the early 1870's she made fast passages on the "tea-clip' under her owners, Killick Martin and Co. In the late '70's and '80's she was employed in Trans-Pacific Trade.
Sold in 1885 she was then placed in the South American Trade, foundering in 1891 off Valparaiso in a force 10 gale.

Norman Court was built in 1869 by William Kennie, whe was another fast sailor on the China run, she was said to be at her best in light airs and head seas. In June 1877 she was converted to a barque, making her last Tea Passage in 1879. In 1883 while employed in the java sugar trade she was wrecked off Anglesey.' - Barry Mason
