The paddle steamer Ivanhoe was built for the Firth of Clyde Steam Packet Co. in 1880 and enjoyed the unique status amongst the Clyde steamers of being a 'teetotal boat'. Excessive drinking aboard many of the pleasure steamers was a widspread problem at that time and the result was that Ivanhoe became an immediate success with the travelling public. Particularly in her early years she was extremely well maintained - almost to the standards of a private yacht - and despite subsequent changes of ownership, she remained in service on the various west coast routes until finally being scrapped in 1920.
