Lot Essay

The extreme intricacy of the design of this vase demanded the use of the cire perdue technique. Lalique often used cire perdue as a means of creating prototype vessels for future mass production, but the complexity of this model suggests it was always intended as a show piece to demonstrate Lalique's technical virtuosity.
