CESSOLIS, Jacobus de (fl. late 13th/early 14th century, O.P.). De Ludo Scachorum. [France: ca. 1480].
205 x 140 mm. ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM. Collation: 1-88 94 (lacking 3/1, 6/4.5, 8/1.8, 9/1): 62 (of 68) leaves. Ruled in red, brown ink, red for the headings, bâtarde scripts, 24-30 lines. Illuminated coat-of-arms (flaked and unidentified) on 1r and a blue and white penwork border of leaf-ornament (perhaps later), gold initials on red ground, paragraph marks and line-fillers in red or blue. (A few minor stains). 18th-century sheep (binding worn, spine defective). Provenance: Gabriel Rudingius (17th-century inscr.); Avallon, Capuchins (18th-century inscrs.); Tassilo von Heydebrand und der Lasa (MS 472.2, Verzeichniss p.36); Albrecht Buschke.
