Lot Essay

Apollo, one of the twelve gods of Mount Olympus, was the son of Zeus and Leto. He epitomised man's civilised nature and also represented the ideal form of male physical beauty, just as his sister, Venus, represented the female.

In the present group, the quiver of arrows signifies Apollo's role as patron of archery, the serpent, his victory over the Python of Delphi.
