Lot Essay

General Dupont's surrender at Bailen in Eastern Spain was due to his inability to supply his army. This caused an immediate increase in opposition to the French occupation, nowhere more famously than at Saragossa, see Lot 22 in the Baldwin Collection CSK 4 May 1978
