Lot Essay

The book collection of Edward Harley, 2nd Earl of Oxford, was sold by Thomas Osborne, the block purchaser, between 1743 and 1745. The five volume Catalogus Bibliothecae Harleianae (1743-45) was compiled for him by Johnson and William Oldys. See next lot.
