Further details
This lovely piece, not known to Grove, is a pattern for an unissued medal -- not for a coin, since the legend is in Spanish. It is certainly a product of the Mexico City mint, for the draped bust portrait, although left-facing, is identical with the right-facing bust introduced on the coinage in 1811. No finished medals are known to have been issued with this portrait and as such it is probably unique.
