A rare early 19th-Century lacquered brass transit telescopic surveyor's compass, the telescope with bubble level and cross wire adjustors, eyepiece draw-tube focusing, the axis with quadrant engraved with a 40°-0-40° scale with vernier, raised on twin supports from the horizontal plate incorporating the cross-bubble and silvered compass dial, signed Troughton & Simms LONDON, the plain blued steel needle with agate cap and balance weight, on 4 screw tripod mounting, with labels on reduction tables, in makers mahogany case - 10ins. (25.3cm.) wide.
