505, 3 blank leaves. Title within architectural border; woodcut cartouche head-pieces; chapter numbers printed in the outside margins, numbers of every fifth verse printed in the inside margins, all other verses numbered by hand.
4to, 223 x 160 mm. (8¼ x 6 in.), old calf, spine gilt, upper cover detached, spine ends worn; title-page reinforced along gutter margin (on verso), some margins trimmed (affecting only early handwritten marginalia), final leaf loose, minor marginal worming and spotting.
First State of the First Antwerp Edition of the Hebrew Bible.

The type was cast after the matrices of Daniel van Bomberghen (through the mediacy of his nephew Cornelius van Bomberghen, who was Plantin's business partner). The text is based on Bomberg's Second Rabbinic Bible, printed in Venice in 1524-25. In the same year (1566) an octavo and a sextodecimo edition appeared in Antwerp as well.
