BIBLE, Hebrew. [Complete vocalized Hebrew Bible].
Berlin: Daniel Ernst Jablonski, 1699.
Engraved title-page; part-titles with woodcut borders.
Bound in 4 volumes, 4to, 230 x 200 mm. (9 x 7 7/8 in.), rebound in modern quarter vellum, light even browning throughout, first 4 gatherings inlaid to size (apparently from the octavo issue) to conform to the larger sheets, scattered browning and staining.
Steinschneider 702; Zedner 100; Darlow & Moule 5138 ("Masch states that this Bible was issued in octavo and on large paper of quarto size. The latter was for students, the wide margin being intended for Ms. notes."); not in Roest.
In his long preface the editor, a theologian of Brandenburg, claims to have collated all the cardinal editions of the Hebrew Bible and several manuscripts and to have paid special attention to the correct printing of all the vowel and the accents. In effect, his edition is largely based on Johannes Leusden's edition of 1667. (4)
