A Collection of Pattern Books and Textile Designs of Bianchini-Ferier, 1920s-1940 The firm was founded in 1888 and by the early 20th century was well established. Bianchini was a dynamic businessman and in 1912 he gave the artist Raoul Dufy (1877-1953) who had been designing for Paul Poiret, a contract to design printed textiles for the company, a contract which was to last until about 1927. They thus became prestigious and highly fashionable. Not only were the silks and velvet of superior quality but the designs were imaginative and enchanting. Apart from Poiret they also supplied Jeanne Lanvin and Jean Patou with silks. These pattern books were a working archive. Many of the patterns have notes and weaving instructions on the facing page, and some patterns have been removed. On the other hand the albums were produced with numbered pages and some pages appear never to have been used at all. This is why the following lots are described as incomplete.
Pattern Book no. 138, Dispositions (swatches) 14700-14799, including several Oriental designs, "douillettes" woven with birds and flowers, "faconné metals" with Japonaiserie patterns and tie designs, (incomplete), first entry dated 25/11/18
