Co., Providence, 1879, marked EX/ Lion Anchor G/ STERLING/ & OTHER METALS / B 47 / L, in the Japanese taste, compressed circular, with traces of gilding to interior, with spot hammered finish, on plain bowed rim foot, the body six times applied with waterlilly spray with gold-sheathed buds, the lower body engraved with monogram, with two highly up-raised bronze loop handles with ganulated bands at intervals, and continuing around above foot, the joins bound with silver ropetwist, with applied die-rolled rim--11¼in. (28.5cm.), gross weight 33.5oz.

Lot Essay

Another example of this berry bowl of the same date, was in the collection of Charles H. Carpenter, Jr. Collection, and was sold in the Park Avenue Rooms, January 21, 1994, lot 18. That example was exhibited at the Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design, "Gorham: Masterpieces in Metal," October 14, 1983--February 12, 1984.
