THURSDAY, DECEMBER 7 CHRISTIE'S PARK AVENUE AT 2:00 P.M (LOTS 2001-2768) THE ROBERT HARLICK COLLECTION OF GREEK SILVER Spink America is pleased to present the collection of Greek coins formed by Robert Harlick of San Francisco, California. A lifelong resident of the Bay Area, he has made a career practicing law, and served as an adjunct professor of law at the Golden Gate University Law School for twenty-five years. An active collector since 1971, he purchased his first Greek silver coins from Edward Ganz in 1949 while an undergraduate at the University of California at Berkely. Mr. Harlick is a familiar face at local numismatic events and holds membership in the San Francisco Ancient Numismatic Society, the American Numismatic Society and the Royal Numismatic Society. Throughout his decades of collecting, he has avoided the temptation to acquire coins in poor condition, and instead would wait until an attractive specimen was available. This insistence on quality, combined with a keen eye for Greek art, has allowed Mr. Harlick to assemble a fine collection. He is parting with his Greek silver so he can focus on an entirely different area of ancient numismatics. Mr. Harlick is satisfied to know his coins will find homes with other collectors. On this subject he has a favorite passage from the will of renowned collector Edmund de Goncourt: "...I require that (my coins) shall be dispersed under the hammer of the auctioneer, so that the pleasure which the acquiring of each one of them has given me shall be given again in each case to some (person who shares) my own taste."
