JOHN LENNON
A rare autograph letter, signed, [n.d. but September 1st, 1967] Kenwood, Cavendish Rd, St Georges Hill, Colesbridge, Surrey to a pupil of Lennon's former school Quarry Bank High School, answering several questions including his personal motifs for writing ...all my writing (including H.Fred) has always been for laughs or fun whatever you call it - I do it for me first - whatever people make of it afterwards is valid, but it doesn't necessarily have to correspond to my thoughts about it O.K.? This goes for anyones 'creations' art poetry song etc. - the mystery and shit that is built around all forms of art needs smashing anyway.., discussing the song Mr Kite, this ...is taken almost word for word from an old theatrical poster - including the 'Hendersons'. 'Parlez Farque' was the name of the circus.. and referring to several teachers ...Is Mr Burton (English) still there - if so say hello - he was one of the only teachers who dug me and vice verca.., discussing the song 'Getting Better' ...reflects both of our views (Paul and mine).. and giving advise on writing ...I have the same trouble as you in writing - but the answer is just let it roll - LOVE (no alm not queer! John Lennon adding a cautionary post script ...I don't want to start a rash of letters from little quarrymen - so play it a bit cool as they say in 'Swingin (sic) London'...but do say hello to any of those teachers... even Pohjoy who got me into art school so I could fail there as well - I can never thank him enough.., 2pp. and corresponding envelope frankmarked Weybridge, Surrey, 1 Sep. 1967.
