AN ATTIC BLACK-FIGURED NECK-AMPHORA

One side with Herakles and Amazons, the hero wearing a short chiton and the Nemean lion's skin, a baldric over each shoulder, grasping Andromache and thrusting his sword, Andromache is down on one knee, wearing a short tunic, corselet and a high-crested Attic helmet, a shield (three balls as the device) in one hand, a spear in the other, behind her another Amazon in similar garb, wearing a sheathed sword, with a spear in her raised hand, behind Herakles a third Amazon in Scythian garment and cap flees left but looks back at the battle, the other side with a warrior on horseback wearing a short chiton, mantle and traveler's hat, with two spears in his hand, his dog below, to the right a man wearing a Scythian garment and cap, and to the left an old man wearing a himation over his chiton, holding a staff, with added white for female flesh and the old man's hair and beard, details in added red, a band of vertical lines above the scene, lotus buds below, rays above the foot, palmette chain on the neck, and lotus-palmette tendrils at the handles, intact
