Lot Essay

In the above letter, Piper apologises for "not returning the books before ... I have been negligent about important things such as your parcel." He says he is now sending the books, "together with a proof of an aquatint for Brunswick Square which I prepared as a spare illustration for the hand-coloured edition in case anything went wrong with any of the plates during printing. Nothing did go wrong, so this illustration does not ordinarily appear." He concludes, "With, once again, many thanks for your kindly appreciation, and good wishes to yourself, and for the future of your library."
