Lot Essay

John Arlott gave a short account of his "long-standing friendship" with Kingsley Amis in "A Frank Man," included in Kingsley Amis in Life and Letters (ed. Dale Salwak, London, Macmillan, 1990), pp. 31-32. Here he observes that Amis has been so prolific an author that "a faithful collection on the shelf" would be "a metre, more than forty titles and thirty-five years long."
