LEWIS, C.S. (1898-1963). The Screwtape Letters, London, Geoffrey Bles, 1942, 8°, FIRST EDITION in book form, SIGNED AND INSCRIBED copy with author's signature on front blank, beneath it the following verse in Lewis's hand: "This first edition Is full of printer's errors Aptly it mirrors Man's first condition," and in an asterisked footnote to the autograph he adds: "I never could develop a nice grown-up 'signature' so I just have to write my name like any other word," on the front pastedown there is a 5 stanza poem, "Metrical Experiment," again in Lewis's hand, signed with his initials -- (?) previously published in The Spectator, original black cloth with paper label (rubbed).
