A similar pair of wafer irons, formerly included in Christie's House sale, Harewood House, 3rd October 1988, was sold in these rooms, lot 53, 8th May 1991.

J. Seymour Lindsay, in his book, Iron and Brass Implements of the English House, suggests that wafer irons were employed in both religious and domestic establishments.
